Abstract
In recent years, there has been an ever-expanding interest in reducing the environmental impact associated with the polymer manufacturing industry. This review discusses the benefits associated with natural fibers use in composite materials as well as the challenges that must be overcome for this to occur on a larger scale. A critical analysis of various environmentally friendly methods to optimize natural fiber properties such as chemical and physical surface treatments has been conducted. Case studies showcase applications where natural fiber composites (NFCs) are already being implemented such as the automotive industry, aerospace, and defense where innovations are being made.
