Abstract

This article represents the culmination of several years of research into description-driven systems in collaboration with CERN which resulted in the PhD thesis of Dr Florida Estrella from UWE's Centre for Complex Cooperative Systems. It has been cited on several occasions by the active object model community and led to invited talks at the Object Oriented Programming, Systems, Lanuage and Architecture (OOPSLA) and the Object Oriented Information Systems conferences in 2003. It is the first application of design patterns in the management of CERN systems using database-resident description and an important advancement on the MDA of the Object Management Group. McClatchey was supervisor for Estrella's PhD.
