Relationships on the margins of alternative provision
Johnston, Craig
Authors
Abstract
A style of work in education that prioritises the maintenance of helpful staff-student relations would hardly seem contentious. Such work might even be considered as crucial within settings that specifically set out to cater for students in the aftermath of a breakdown in, or an exclusion from such relations. Indeed, relations between staff and students is a pervasive theme in the existing research on the Alternative Provision (AP) sector. What is much less understood, however, are other kinds of relations that influence children and young people’s experiences of AP. During this event leading scholars on Alternative Provision will share their insights on an important, but largely underexamined aspects of relations in AP –friendship relations.
