The local state: theory and practice.
Abstract
Reviews the concept of the local state and the multiple meanings it has acquired. The origins of current interest in this area are located in terms of developments in radical social theory; local struggles and community action; Conservative Government attacks on local government and the impact of Thatcherism; and the study of policy implementation and central-local relations.-Author
