Abstract

This report identifies, summarises, evaluates and analyses the data that currently exist on British public attitudes to human rights, in general, and minority rights, in particular. Human rights will be considered in a broad sense, to include economic, social, civil, political and cultural rights; as well as to include the rights given in the UK Human Rights Act and other international treaties to which the UK is a signatory. Section one outlines the overall findings and summarises what the evidence indicates. Section two is a thematic summary table which highlights the patterns and discrepancies in the material. Section three discusses the findings and research implications, highlighting the significant gaps and pointing to the need for more specific research in certain areas. The studies which this evidence is drawn from are listed in the Appendices, which describe report titles, authors, commissioners, research questions, methods, sampling strategy, results and conclusions as well as commenting in more detail on the quality and reliability of the data.
