Abstract

Welcome to the first issue of Clothing Cultures. The aim of this new journal is to carve out ‘clothing culture’ as a discipline in its own right, distinct from but complimentary to the work currently being developed in fashion theory, material culture, design history and anthropology. This distinction is founded on an understanding that clothing inhabits a unique and seemingly dichotomous cultural space; one that is both intensely social but irreducibly personal and embodied.
