Abstract

This short article was commissioned by the University of Edinburgh to appear on their Revisiting Child Protection ESRC Impact Project blog. The article summarises the paper given by Dr Lauren Devine at the University of Edinburgh entitled Making the case for 'Rethinking Child Protection Strategy', presenting a summary of the data and theoretical findings from the two-year large scale, longitudinal law, policy and data analysis project to look at whether current child protection and safeguarding intervention strategy is justified. The conclusions of the data analysis suggest it is not, and that a revised strategy is adopted. Four new theoretical insights are introduced, and a new ethico-legal framework is suggested.
