Abstract

Research on sustainable entrepreneurship education is generally lacking. The aim of this chapter is to explore how an undergraduate elective course employs sustainable entrepreneurship to engage students in a community of practice. We conduct a case study of an undergraduate elective course re-designed to adopt sustainability and sustainable entrepreneurship education.
We found evidence that when building a community of practice for sustainable entrepreneurship students become aware of the importance of being critical citizens. We proposed two key activities: project work and embracing an active citizenship to nurture the full-participation of students in a community of practice. Through project work - the development of the sustainable venture idea, the prototype, the mentoring and the participation in the festival, students were provided of a learning context for changing their perceptions on sustainable entrepreneurship. Individual and collective reflections on the class activities were important to become aware of the own role as an active citizen.
