Leadership as community

Abstract
This book takes a fresh look at leadership and leadership learning and development through the lens of community. Developing on from writing around distributed notions of leadership and worldliness the book develops thought towards important dimensions in understanding community. These dimensions form each chapter of the book and look closely at issues linked to leadership. The dimensions investigated in each chapter are individualism, a sense of belonging, friendship and social networks, aesthetics and symbolism, liminality and language and ethics. The book also explores more critical and postmodern perspectives of leadership and community that highlight the fluidity of modernity and how this might impact on our interpretations of leadership especially through discourse. The book forges a relational notion of leadership linked to community and develops themes for future research and methodology along this line. The book also develops ideas, implications and suggestions for the practice of leadership development.
