Introduction
Abstract
This jointly authored introduction argues for the importance of the producer in understanding how the film and television industries actually work. It provides an overview of the stereotypes that have coloured and caricatured recognition of the producer's function and a discussion of the slender literature that does exist on the subject, its strengths and limitations. The authors also provide an overview discussion of the contributions to the volume and how they advance discussion of the subject.
