Additional Information Additional Information : In this single-authored article, Miller looks specifically at the proactive ways in which Canadian non-profit social welfare organisations develop and sustain active forms of accountability and manage the tensions that arise in their relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. The paper builds upon previous funded and published policy-related work on Canada's non-profit sector. Policy and Politics was chosen as an ideal vehicle to inform UK policy debates about the voluntary sector. The paper anticipates many of the issues raised in the current ESRC programme 'Non-Governmental Public Action'.
