Abstract
The food system, and other similar opportunistic and dynamic supply systems, are increasingly exploiting digital data to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness. Digital data is plentiful and fluid but introduces challenges to security, privacy, trust overheads, and myriad others when sharing with services beyond traditional organisational boundaries. The focus of this paper is to explore the emergent tools and processes necessary to establish and sustainably cultivate a data-sharing structure that can serve the needs of a dynamic food and drink supply system or similar collaborative supply chain. We also address the role of the data sharing club as a structure that employs a customised governance framework for that unique structure. Central to this approach is the need to understand the interactions of people, technology and organisation.
