Abstract

The abbe events were initiated in 2015 in response to Johanna Drucker’s 2004 call for the artists book community to contribute to the development of a critical language to evaluate artists books. The proceedings at abbe 2015 were framed around the terms ‘post literacy’ and ‘the haptic’. abbe 2017 was framed around the fold, "the ideal fold is Zweifalt, a fold that both differentiates and is differentiated" (Plotnitsky).
With participation from leading journal editors and Australian artists and scholars in the field, the abbe events continue groundwork for the ongoing engagement of antipodean artists and scholars in the field of artists books.
