@misc { , title = {The Delphy Bridge project: A multimedia deep mapping project evoking and engaging the lives of older adults in rural North Cornwall}, abstract = {The Grey and Pleasant Land project is a 3-year interdisciplinary programme of research (2009-2011) on older people in rural areas of South West England and Wales funded through the UK Research Councils’ New Dynamics of Ageing programme. The project is investigating key ways in which older people are connected to their rural communities—i.e., culturally, physically, socially, economically and technologically—and the role which these links play in older people’s involvement in civic life. Six interrelated work packages in the project will each focus on these different aspects of older people’s connectedness in rural community life and factors that act as barriers or as facilitators to their inclusion and participation. As part of the project an interdisciplinary arts practice-led research team from the University of the West of England engaged in a 'Deep Mapping' exercise.
Iain Biggs, Dan Buzzo and ESRC-funded doctoral research student Jane Bailey worked in north Cornwall on an arts-led project called 'Either Side of Delphy Bridge: mapping connectivity' that explored and documented older residents’ conceptions of the physical, social and cultural landscapes in which they locate themselves, focusing on issues of memory, place and identity and their relationship to the ageing experience. The first stage consisted of a mixture of traditional ethnography and performative ethnographic approaches to understand the dynamic ways in which the meaning, understanding and experience of ageing is/has been understood and represented in this particular area/culture, culminating in a performance or event based on that material. The outputs of this project include a multi-authored, multi-media website arts/research deep map "The Delphy Bridge Project" that combines texts, audio, video and images on the World Wide Web}, publicationstatus = {Published}, url = {https://uwe-repository.worktribe.com/output/951636}, keyword = {deep mapping, multimedia, research methodology, creativity, reflection, ethnography, interdisciplinary approach, innovation}, author = {Biggs, Iain and Bailey, Jane and Buzzo, Daniel} }
