@article { , title = {Voltammetric behaviour of Bronopol at a glassy carbon electrode and its amperometric determination in environmental water samples}, abstract = {This paper represents the first detailed report on the electrochemical behaviour of the pesticide, Bronopol (2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol). The electrochemical behaviour of Bronopol has been investigated at glassy carbon electrode by cyclic voltammetry and by amperometry in stirred solution. Cyclic voltammetry investigations were characterised by a single reduction peak which was found to be pH independent between pH 4 and pH 8 with a peak potential of 0.7 V (vs. SCE). This reduction process was concluded to result from a single electron reduction of the carbon-bromide bond to give 2-nitro-propane-1,3-diol. Conditions were optimised for the amperometric determination of Bronopol in a 0.1 M, pH 7.5 phosphate buffer. The optimum applied potential of 0.7 V (vs. SCE) was identified by hydrodynamic voltammetry. A linear range of 5.0 µg/mL to 350 µg/mL, with a slope of 71.6 nA/µgmL 1 (R2 = 0.999) was found with a corresponding detection limit of 0.2 µg/mL based on a signal to noise ratio of three. Fish pond water samples fortified with concentrations of Bronopol similar to those reportedly commonly utilised in aquaculture were investigated by the optimised amperometric technique. Mean recoveries of 97.4 \% (\%CV = 3.13 \%) and 97.8 \% (\%CV = 4.45 \%) for pond water fortified with 100 µg/mL and 264 µg/mL Bronopol were recorded.}, issn = {2374-6300}, journal = {SOP Transactions on Analytical Chemistry}, note = {Comments and Suggestions : Archive published version when available: All our publications are under license of "Creative Commons", and other Open Access rules.
